Avondale

Close enough to town to walk, far enough to park. Avondale is where Harare's restaurants, professional firms, embassies and a private hospital settled once the CBD stopped working — and where the ecosystem's hub sits a few streets south.

What is here

Commerce. Avondale Shopping Centre and a weekly flea market that has run since 1997; coffee houses, restaurants, bars and a theatre; bank branches. The King George Road corridor runs towards Mount Pleasant and the CBD with businesses, mid-rise apartments and embassies.

Health and education. St Anne's Hospital; Avondale Primary, Twin Rivers, Blakiston, Littlerock International, Hillbright Science College; the British Council library on Cork Road. The Avenues Clinic and Impact Hub Harare (194 Baines Avenue) are a short drive south in the Avenues.

Connectivity. Econet named Avondale among its first 5G coverage areas in October 2024. Firms relocating out of the CBD list Avondale alongside Borrowdale, Eastlea, Milton Park and Belvedere.
