Business travel, conferences and the 2029 Intra-African Trade Fair are pulling new rooms into Harare. The operators who win the group bookings will be the ones whose enquiry desk answers on WhatsApp in minutes.
What is specific to Harare
Room stock and the 2029 target. Harare has 11,854 hotel rooms with a pipeline that could take it to 18,849 — against roughly 20,000 needed to host IATF 2029. Accor, Hilton, Radisson, Four Seasons and Grand Hyatt are named as operators circling the market. National Q1 2026 international arrivals were 384,561 (+11%), receipts US$251m (+14%).
Conference city. The Harare International Conference Centre (with the Rainbow Towers hotel) hosts the Evolve ICT Summit; the Exhibition Park showgrounds host the Agricultural Show each August (600+ exhibitors on the organiser's own description). RGM International Airport handled 1,652,432 passengers in 2025 with 13 scheduled airlines, through a terminal expanded in 2023 to 6 million capacity.
Power memory. Restaurants in Avondale and Borrowdale ran kitchens on generators and inverters through 18-hour cuts in early 2025. Guests still ask whether the hotel has backup power before they ask about breakfast.
